Psychotherapy in Bristol: Rachel Court Therapy

Rachel Court — UKCP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist

As an accredited UKCP psychotherapist, I offer individual therapy for adults in Bristol and online. I provide a confidential, thoughtful, and accepting space where you can take time to explore what is happening in your life, your relationships, and within yourself. Sometimes we seek therapy because something specific is troubling us; other times, we may simply feel that something isn't quite right, that we feel stuck, or that we want to understand ourselves more deeply. Whatever brings you to therapy, we can work together to explore your experience, examining the thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationship patterns that a relational counsellor can help you make sense of.

What psychotherapy can help with

People seek the help of an accredited UKCP psychotherapist for numerous reasons. In Bristol, you might be experiencing: anxiety, stress, or feelings of being overwhelmed; low mood or depression; challenges in relationships; low self-esteem or self-confidence; a sense of being stuck or lost; difficulties in understanding or expressing emotions; recurring patterns in relationships; the impact of difficult or traumatic experiences; significant life changes or transitions; grief, loss, or other painful experiences; or a desire to understand yourself more deeply. It's important to note that you don't necessarily need a specific problem or diagnosis to engage in individual therapy. Often, the first step is simply that feeling that you want things to be different but aren’t quite sure how to achieve that goal, with guidance from a relational counsellor.

How I work

I am an accredited UKCP psychotherapist and a BACP-registered counsellor based in Bristol. My approach to individual therapy is humanistic, relational, and integrative. This means I draw from various therapeutic models and perspectives, believing that no single approach fits everyone. My training encompasses ideas from developmental and attachment theory, Gestalt, neuroscience, and polyvagal theory, and I also emphasize a trauma-informed approach. Most importantly, I focus on understanding you as an individual—your history, relationships, experiences, and the ways you've learned to navigate your sense of self and your environment. Together, we can explore patterns that may have once served you but may no longer be beneficial, fostering a greater awareness of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and bodily experiences. I truly believe that meaningful change emerges from a deeper understanding of ourselves and from experiencing a different kind of relationship within therapy.

The therapeutic relationship

For me, the relationship between therapist and client is central to psychotherapy, especially as an accredited UKCP psychotherapist based in Bristol. It serves as the vehicle of change.

Individual therapy offers an opportunity to experience a relationship where you can be curious about yourself, speak openly, and explore thoughts that may be difficult to articulate. Together as a relational counsellor, we can notice what occurs between us and utilize that experience to better understand patterns that may also be present in your relationships outside therapy.

My aim is not to tell you what to do or who you should be. Instead, I will work alongside you to help you develop a greater understanding of yourself and make choices that feel more authentic and meaningful to you.

About me

I am an accredited UKCP psychotherapist and a registered member of BACP, as well as a professional member of the Welsh Psychotherapy Institute, based in Bristol. Alongside my private psychotherapy practice, I have extensive professional experience within the NHS and have worked with people experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

My background has given me an appreciation of the complexity of people's lives and the many different factors that can affect our emotional wellbeing. It has also reinforced for me the importance of treating each person as an individual rather than defining them by a diagnosis or difficulty.

I have an MSc in Health Psychology and postgraduate training in Integrative Psychotherapy.

I am a full clinical member of UKCP and a registered member of BACP. I undertake regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development and work within the ethical and professional standards of the organisations to which I belong.

Psychotherapy in Bristol

I work from comfortable therapy rooms at The Practice Rooms on North Street in Southville, Bristol, which is conveniently located near central Bristol. As an accredited UKCP psychotherapist, I offer both in-person and online psychotherapy options. If you are searching for a psychotherapist in Bristol who can provide individual therapy, and would like to see if we might be a good fit, please reach out to arrange an introductory session. I approach therapy in an open-ended way, offering both short-term and longer-term psychotherapy based on what you wish to explore and what feels appropriate for you. Generally, we meet weekly, as regular sessions can provide the continuity and space essential for meaningful therapeutic work; however, I can offer some flexibility to accommodate your circumstances. As a relational counsellor, I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship to support your growth and healing.
